Anime on the Horizon - Madman October 2012
October 2011 was probably the biggest month of releases for the entire year and this year October looks even bigger. It seems as though October is the month that Madman release big box sets and by big, I mean HUMONGOUS!
This year we see some of our favourites, old and new, collected into tidy packages which would make a perfect Christmas gift idea. That said, don't dilly dally because last years Fullmetal Alchemist Complete Collection sold out in no time!
Check out some of the choice releases after the jump!
I always felt like I missed the boat with Dragon Ball Z. Of course, as a kid, I watched Dragon Ball during weekday morning cartoon slots but I never managed to get on board with Dragon Ball Z. Well, now is the chance to get the complete 16 disc remastered version in a limited edition box set!
At SMASH, Sly said that it is unlikely that Madman will re-release its predecessor, Dragon Ball, so get DBZ Kai while it's hot!
"The last descendants of an evil race of warriors known as the Saiyans are on a collision course with Earth, and Goku - the strongest fighter on the planet - is all that stands between humanity and extinction. To save his friends and the world he loves, Goku must travel to a realm from which few return, but should he survive, he'll discover the power to face the villainous Saiyan warlord - Prince Vegeta. From the Saiyan Saga to Cell Saga, as the original creator intended!"
Last year saw the complete collection of Fullmetal Alchemist released and this year we get its bigger brother, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. To say that I'm excited for this release would be an understatement. I haven't managed to catch any Brotherhood yet, apart from the OVA collection, so this complete collection is made of pure WIN!
No word yet whether we will get a corresponding Blu Ray release.
"Edward and Alphonse Elric's reckless disregard for alchemy's fundamental laws ripped half of Ed's limbs from his body and left Al's soul clinging to a cold suit of armor. To restore what was lost, the brothers scour a war-torn land for the Philosopher's Stone, a fabled relic which grants the ability to perform alchemy in impossible ways.
The Elrics are not alone in their search; the corrupt State Military is also eager to harness the artifact's power. So too are the strange Homunculi and their shadowy creator. The mythical gem lures exotic alchemists from distant kingdoms, scarring some deeply enough to inspire murder. As the Elrics find their course altered by these enemies and allies, their purpose remains unchanged - and their bond unbreakable."
Gundam Unicorn is spectacular. From the animation to the score and the characterisation to the epic storyline, Gundam Unicorn is everything that you love about the Gundam franchise PLUS!
Now that the gushing is out of the way, Gundam Unicorn is on the home stretch of its 7 volume run.
"Riddhe and Banagher are confronted by the jet-black Unicorn Gundam 02, "Banshee." Meanwhile, Bright, the captain of the Ra Cailum, senses the future in Banagher's strong will and decides to grant his wish. Via his friends Beltorchika Irma and Kai Shiden, Bright secretly calls in the Garencieres team to attack the Garuda..."
Naruto is one of the biggest manga series of all time and its anime counterpart is equally successful. Now, for the first time, you can get your hands on all of the Naruto movies in one place. Believe it!
"Naruto - Ninja Clash in the Land of Snow
Naruto and the group travel to the land of snow to in order to protect famous actress Yukie Fujikaze while she is filming her new movie. However when they get there they discover that there is more than meets the eye and that there is something about Yukie Fujikaze that she's hiding.
Naruto - Legend of the Stone of Gelel
While on one of the most boring missions of their lives (chasing a missing ferret), Naruto, Sakura and Shikumaru are attacked by a mysterious warrior clad in armour, who calls himself Temujin. The young ninja soon get mixed up in struggle over the powerful stone of Gelel. With the help of Gaara and Kankuro from the sand village, Naruto and co strive to stop the stone of Gelel ending up the wrong hands.
Naruto - Guardians of the Crescent Moon Kingdom
This time, Naruto and Sakura are joined by the loveable Rock Lee as they go about protecting a wealthy Prince and his spoilt son on the way to their home - the crescent moon kingdom. However, when a vicious rebellion thratens the wellbeing of the entire village, Naruto and the gang once again dust of their jutsu's and do what they do best by kicking some bad guy butt."
One Piece is the most successful manga franchise OF ALL TIME! Think about that for a second. Kinda hard to imagine, huh? Anyway, if you always wanted to watch One Piece but feel as though you missed the boat (pun entirely intended) then this is the perfect opportunity to hop aboard. Collection One and Collection Two both hold 16 discs each - that's about 43 hours of swashbuckling content!
"As the Pirate King Gold Roger was executed he revealed that his treasure, known as "One Piece," was hidden somewhere on the Grand Line. Monkey D. Luffy dreams of finding the legendary treasure and becoming the Pirate King, and after eating the devil's fruit he gains the power to do so, by stretching like rubber! But first he must find a crew...
Prepare for the wildest journey in anime! (Collection 1) Contains Eps 1-103, the entire first three seasons!"
From the über successful and critically acclaimed Studio Gainax comes Panty & Stocking With Garterbelt. Look at it this way, it's an adults only anime series by the studio that brought you Neon Genesis Evangelion & Gurren Lagann (a series that I'm desperate to see) all wrapped up in a Dexter's Laboratory coating.
I have to admit that I hadn't heard too much about Towa No Quon but after a little research and a look at the trailer, I'm officially sold! First of all, it's a 6 volume movie series by Studio Bones (FMA: Brotherhood, Gosick) so you know the quality will be up there. Also, the 6 movies were directed by Umanosuke Iida (Hellsing, Gundam MS 08TH Team) who sadly passed away before the first film was released. Check out the trailer down below if you still need convincing.
"In the not-too-distant future, children are being born with special powers; marvelous and remarkable abilities. But what would seem like a wondrous gift turns out to be a dangerous curse. The world is now run by The Order, and these miraculous "deviants" are hunted down and killed.
Quon and his group of Attractors are out to rescue these children before The Order's elite squad of ruthless cyborgs detect them. From their hideout beneath a popular amusement park, the Attractors use high tech gadgetry and their own remarkable abilities to save these children. They teach them to harness and control their powers to overthrow the very powers that seek to destroy them."
Also out in October are Bleach Collection 15, Naruto Shippuden Collection 11, One Piece Collection 17 and Hetalia World Series Season 4. Needless to say, October is shaping up to be the best month for Aussie anime geeks - perhaps it should be renamed to Otakuber!
