Anime on the Horizon - Madman November 2012
It must be difficult to organise an impressive line up of November releases following the TONNE of great releases in October, but Madman have taken a damn good stab at it.
Sure, there may not the gigantic box sets that we're getting in October but what we do get is a handful of new series, old series and a couple of fan favourite Ghibli films on Blu Ray.
So, no, November isn't as big as October but there's still plenty of goodness on the horizon. Check out all of the releases after the jump!
Way back at the Japanese Film Festival 2011 we reviewed the beautiful Arrietty and said that it was one of the best films of the fest and still stand by that statement.
This is a story of a family of “little” people.
ARRIETTY is a visually stunning animated film created by world-renowned Japanese animation house Studio Ghibli (SPIRITED AWAY, HOWL’S MOVING CASTLE, PONYO) and based on the much-loved children’s book The Borrowers by Mary Norton.
In this whimsical adventure, tiny 14-year-old Arrietty lives under the floorboards of a sprawling mansion set in a magical, overgrown garden with her father and mother. Arrietty and her family live by borrowing. Everything they have, they borrow or make from the things they have borrowed from the old lady who lives in the mansion.
Their peaceful life is dramatically changed when the ever-curious Arrietty accidentally allows herself to be seen by Sho, a lonely 12-year-old human boy. The two begin to confide in each other and, before long, a friendship begins to blossom...
As announced back in June at Supanova, K-On is back and this geek is happy! Actually, excited is an understatement.
Sometimes music and words come together so perfectly that the combination is far more powerful than either would be alone. In much the same way, the five members of the Sakuragaoka Girl's High School's Light Music Club have become far more than just a group of girls with similar interests. More, even, than just a group of friends. Which makes the coming end of the school year and the graduation of the four older members something that's dreaded as much as it's looked forward to. That will be a stretch! Yearbook photos? The horror! And a school play with Mio and Ritsu cast as Romeo and Juliet? Ooo, VERY awkward. My Neighbour Totoro on Blu Ray. There is nothing else to say.
Two young girls, Satsuki and Mei, have moved with their father into a new home in the country, while their mother recovers from illness in a nearby hospital. To their surprise, they soon discover that they share this home with some rather unusual creatures and even stranger neighbours - forest guardians that the girls dub Totoro. When trouble occurs, their new friends will help them rediscover hope.
Oblivion Island was originally screened in Australia at the 2010 Japanese Film Festival's Anime Matsuri session. Our original review said that it was a definite addition to our DVD and that statement still stands. A beautiful film both visually and in terms of story, it is just a pity that it's missing a Blu Ray release.
