Ron "Monkey Island" Gilbert to Open PAX
The Penny Arcade Expo (PAX) is shaping up to be Australia's premier gaming event and, for ageing gamers like myself, they have just announced yet another reason to join in the party.
If the name Guybrush Threepwood rings any bells, you'll be excited to learn that Lucasarts alumni and creator of Monkey Island, Ron Gilbert, will be in attendance to officially open the show.
This announcement was enough to bring back some fantastic memories of playing The Secret of Monkey Island on my IBM running DOS 4.0 (ask your parents). Good times.
Look behind you! A three-headed monkey!
Monkey Island creator Ron Gilbert to open PAX Australia
Tuesday 12 February, 2013 - The Penny Arcade Expo (PAX) is coming to Australia in July 2013, and celebrated videogame designer Ron Gilbert (creator of the Monkey Island series) will be providing the opening 'storytime' keynote on the Friday morning.
Ron created many of the iconic LucasArts adventure games, such as Maniac Mansion and Monkey Island, and is responsible for the iconic scripting language SCUMM which was used in subsequent games. He currently works alongside fellow LucasArts alumni Tim Schafer at Double Fine Productions, and created and designed the recently released game - The Cave.
Ron joins other international guests confirmed for PAX Australia including musical acts The Protomen and MC Frontalot, the guys from RoosterTeeth, and of course everyone from Penny Arcade.
PAX Australia will be the largest gaming festival to be held in Australia, and has already sold out of 3 day and Saturday passes. Held at the Melbourne Showgrounds from 19-21 July, 2013, the show is being run by ReedPOP in conjunction with Penny Arcade.
